Alabama hotel you feel welcomed like a human being. almost like a old friend from high school who might of thought you were a bit weird but are happy to see you , the owners and staff are very genuine people. not one for up market hotels myself or being called sir or using a fancy swipe card ...comes across a bit pretentious or fake to me ... none of which you willl find at the Alabama hotel . I even rocked up a day early ( forgot to finalise the booking) and got upgraded to a nice room even though I felt like a bit of a goose . comfy beds to recuperate on lost sleep after enjoying a few social drinks over a few days in Hobart town . nice looking dogs wandering around adds to the atmosphere as a chilled environment. I think a few scratches doesn't go unnoticed. I love Hobart more than my former girlfriends except Hobart probly wouldn't leave me for an accountant but that's another story , I visit regularly for many of Tasmanias natural wonders and I can't say I would stay anywhere else when I wander into the bright lights, after a stint out in the wilderness to use their shower and look at some cool local art work on my way there. great food and many places nearby to have a social drink or fifteen , plus there's a balcony you can sit on and think about life or that beautiful southern island woman you miss, or how large the short tailed shearwater rafts are and sip a cup of nice coffee or a drink of water or alcoholic beverage to the background music which sets the mood . happy hour is on daily why not treat yourself . great times at the Alabama hotel .

The Alabama is equal parts kitsch and comfortable. The rooms are perfect for travellers to rest and recoup as they explore nipaluna/Hobart. The beds are always incredibly comfortable and the rooms are well appointed with art, heating/cooling, windows and a fridge. The shared bathrooms are always very clean with a hot shower waiting to start your day or wind you down at night. The cafe/bar lounge is a beautiful place to rest or meet for drinks with a balcony to enjoy the air and atmosphere. I love sitting in the sun drenched lounge with a coffee or on the balcony to rest between day and night events. You can get delicious coffee, snacks and drinks, and after hours, water is available for rooms including hot water. The Alabama’s location is exceptional. It’s within walking distance of basically everything and there’s restaurants, shopping and a supermarket steps away. The Alabama has become synonymous with travels to nipaluna/Hobart for me. It has warmth and character while providing all the practical things a larger hotel provides. The staff are exceptional, accommodating & knowledgable. I highly recommend staying here when visiting nipaluna/Hobart.

Friendly service and when they thought I was cold in my room at night they offered to move me to a warmer room. Room 4 is actually warm at night, as long as you have your heater going. Yeah, ummm not my brightest moment that's for sure! Just so you know you have to keep turning your heater on via a button next to the light switch, next to the entrance door. After freezing my toosh off, I decided to investigate the reason my toes were frozen. I read the instructions on the heater and....well you'll see when you get to the Alabama Hotel. I enjoyed every moment there and didn't even mind sharing the shower. The place is clean as a whistle. It's cosy and comfortable. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Hobart.

I requested the room with the Tasmanian tiger on the wall (much to my friends dismay hahaha). Jimmy was very accommodating and put us in there. It was a huge room!! There were water jugs and glasses available for the room. It also had a fridge, desk, shelving, clothes hangars and a heater. Very convenient to the bathroom across the hall. Was always very clean and a very quiet place overall! The communal lounge was an awesome aesthetic. Wifi was good too! Jimmy was a legend, we asked for advice or ideas of what to do in and around Hobart each day and ended up doing 98% of what he said and it was always a good idea!

I loved the ambience of this lovely hotel. The walls are adorned with original art works and the decor is dabbled with quirky additions to keep you smiling (flamingos in the stair well, teddies on the bar). The positive vibes are enhanced by chatting with the staff. They are all lovely engaging and fun people. I travelled in winter - the rooms were very warm and the showers were hot. The shared bathrooms were old fashioned in styling but nicely appointed, clean and within close proximity to most rooms. Plus the cocktails served at the bar/reception were divine - 10/10 for the Negroni!
